A common informal self-reference used by Filipinos to refer to citizens of the Philippines and their culture as well as to overseas Filipinos in the Filipino diaspora.
Derived from reversing the syllables of the word “bente,” which means “twenty” in Tagalog. It is often used to refer to a twenty-peso bill or simply the amount of twenty pesos.
Example:
Pahiram naman ng etneb, kulang ako sa pamasahe.
Can I borrow twenty pesos (etneb)? I'm short on fare.
