Churva

A colloquial Filipino slang used as a filler word when someone can’t think of the exact term they want to use or when they want to be vague or playful. It’s similar to saying “whatchamacallit” or “thingamajig” in English.

Can you pass me the whatchamacallit(churva) on the table?

Hindi ko maintindihan yung mga churva na sinabi niya.
I can't understand the stuff(churva) he said.

Gin Bulag

A Filipino slang phrase that translates to “blind gin” in English. It refers to a cheap type of gin that is so potent it can supposedly make you go blind, or at least make you extremely intoxicated. It is often associated with low-quality, strong alcoholic beverages.

Derived from the Tagalog word “malupit” which means “awesome” or “excellent.” When someone refers to something as “petmalu,” they are expressing admiration or approval for it. It’s a positive slang term used to describe something that is impressive or outstanding.

Derived from the word “idol”. When someone calls another person “lodi”, they are expressing admiration and respect for that person. It’s a term of endearment used to refer to someone you look up to or admire.
